Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)
Your BAH will be used in one of two ways. You can either rent on base or you can live off base. If you live off base, you can either rent or buy. Click Here for current BAH rates.

Maxwell Air Force Base is home to the 42nd Air Base Wing who serves as host wing. Maxwell Air Force Base is the center for Joint Professional Military Education in the United States Air Force. The Squadron Officer School and the Air Command and Staff College are both located at Maxwell and offer training for Air Force Officers, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard. Maxwell Air Force Base is located near Montgomery, Alabama. Upon arriving in the area by car, take Interstate 65 South onto Montgomery and take Exit 172. The front gate is approximately two miles off the exit on the right hand side. If arriving by plane, take Highway 80 and follow the signs to Interstate 65 North Downtown. Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base has over 700 family housing units on base for family housing. If searching for off-post housing, homes for sale or rent are available. The housing office will have a list of available properties. The rent is based on the amount of each individual’s basic allowance for housing.
Temporary lodging for Maxwell and Gunter can be arranged through the Temporary Lodging Facilities. Military members will be authorized for a 30 day stay until other accommodations become available. Reservations can be made at the University Inn. The lodging office can be reached at 334-416-4656 or 334-270-4000 DSN 312-516-4656. There is only one Elementary School on Maxwell Air Force Base. Children who are in the preschool through 6th grade and reside on post will attend the DOD Elementary School. Other students will attend school based on where they live. Each area is zoned for a particular school district. Transportation is provided for children enrolled in the public schools. Home schooling and private schooling are other options.
